Halls and Apartments
Room Furnishings
Each residence hall has distinctive qualities, but some amenities are found in every room. Each student can expect to find a bed, desk, chair, dresser and a closet. All but a few (some rooms in Saint Elizabeth Hall) of our rooms are carpeted. All have some type of window dressing (drapes or blinds), a telephone, a thermostat, a mirror, a peephole and towel bars.
Loft Kits
As St. Francis University replaces the bunk beds in the halls, we have been able to offer loft kits to students for purchase. Orders for these kits are taken by mail or at check-in in August. The kits generally arrive in early October. Occasionally, you may also find current students advertising lofts which they are not using.
If you are considering lofting your beds you need to read the following:
1. University Loft kits must be used in the following halls. Unauthorized kits are not permitted. The halls include: St. Joan, St. Agnes, 1st Wing, 2nd and 3rd floor of St. Elizabeth, Giles, Amici, St. Louis and St. Francis.
2. Make sure your roommate also wants a kit. To loft one bed will not provide any additional space than the bunk beds.
3. In halls where the beds cannot be used with the kits, you may bring your own extensions. Please note: SFU does not have any designs for the beds and all furniture must remain in the room.
The key is communication with your roommate. Remember, no one can be forced to have a loft. If your roommate or you are not interested in lofting the beds then the beds won’t be lofted. Sometimes it is good just to live in the room awhile and see how important lofts are. Often times, the residents realize that they don’t really like or need them.
Information on Loft Kits and prices will be mailed to all incoming students. Current students can get information at check in.
Services
Many services are provided for all students in the halls. All serve to make life in the residence hall a home away from home. Some examples are:
Room Phone
Local phone service is provided in all rooms on campus. Long distance and international service may be contracted through the Saint Francis University Telecommunications Office. Voice mail with a private mail box for each occupant of a room is included with all phone service.
Cable TV
All rooms include basic cable.
Security Doors
All our residence hall exterior doors are magnetically locked 24/7. Residents can enter with their student ID card until visitation hours end. After visiting hours the student ID only works in the student's own residence hall.
Internet
All student rooms, except some apartments, are wired to the student computer network providing access to the internet; as well, a wireless internet connection is avaliable on campus.
